The GCHS Golf Team wrapped up the season recently with competition at the District and Region Tournaments. The District Tourney was postponed until Thursday, September 14 due to storms and wind from Hurricane Irma. The team played up to expectations, finishing in second place behind a strong Signal Mountain team. Ajay Tenenbaum led the Jackets with a score of 92. Emily Smith advanced to Region play for the fourth consecutive season with a 103.
Signal Mountain – 310
Grundy County – 418 (Ajay Tenenbaum 92, Trey Hampton 103, Grant Dees 111, Kollyn Cooper 112, Lucas Woodlee 130)
Bledsoe County – 501
On Monday, September 18, the team traveled to Cleveland to compete in the Region 3 (Small) Tournament hosted by Chatata Valley Golf Club. The boys’ team finished fifth, with Ajay Tenenbaum and Emily Smith leading the way once again, with scores of 89 and 104, respectively.
Coach Trey Foster commented on the season, “Our kids worked hard all season to earn another trophy and another trip to the Region, and it paid off. There are 22 schools in our Region now, and fifth is pretty good for a group with not much experience. For Emily to make it all four years is just a credit to her hard work and how competitive she is. I’m really proud of this group.”
Signal Mountain – 306
McMinn Central – 329
Tellico Plains – 375
Polk County – 399
Grundy County – 418 (Ajay Tenenbaum 89, Kollyn Cooper 103, Trey Hampton 111, Lucas Woodlee 115, Grant Dees 121)
