GCHS Golf Completes Regular Season

golfThe GCHS Golf Teams have been wrapping up both regular season and District Tournament play over the past week or so. The Boys squad participated in the Willowbrook Invitational on August 27, which attract several if the top teams in Middle Tennessee. The Jackets managed a 12th place finish, led by outstanding play by sophomore standout John Meeks, who carded an 82. Team results were as follows:

John Meeks 82, Zach Borne 91, Ethan Smith 101, Hunter Ladd 109, and Matt Underhill 110.

On September 2nd, the Boys and Girls Teams closed out regular season play against Marion County and South Pittsburg. The Jackets played well, topping both teams in the three team match. Coach Trey Foster was pleased with the team’s performance and stated, “We talked a lot about having four scores in the 40s. That was a goal this season, and they achieved it.”

Scoring was as follows:

Boys:

Grundy County – 188; John Meeks 46, Zach Borne & Hunter Ladd 47, and Ethan Smith 48

South Pittsburg – 200; Abbott 43, Fuqua 48, Frame 48, and Griffin 55

Marion County – 236; Blevins 55, Veal 56, Hubbard 62, and Carter 63

Girls:

Grundy County – 119; Chasten Britton 59, Maty Partain 60, Emily Smith 60, and Megan Shrum 63

South Pittsburg – NS; Bailey Richardson 60

On September 8, the teams traveled to Chattanooga for the District 7A-AA Tournament at Brainerd Golf Club. The Boys and Girls Teams both finished fifth, with Seniors Ethan Smith and Maty Partain, along with freshman Emily Smith advancing to Region play next Monday at Fall Creek Falls. Sophomore Zach Borne almost advanced as well, losing a three-way playoff. Coach Trey Foster was proud of the teams’ efforts this season and stated, “We have some of the best kids in the school, they work hard, love to compete, and they improved as much as any team I remember. They have been a special group and I’m proud of all of them. And they earned their way to the Region as a result.”
