GCHS football on probation; head coach suspended

Posted on Friday, August 2, 2019 at 1:05 pm

TSSAA has notified Grundy County High School’s football program  that it has been placed on a two-year probation.

Tracy Hayworth, head coach, has been suspended for two games for recruiting violations; assistant coach Nick Meeks has  been suspended for two games.

According to the TSSAA, the violations are for allowing two athletes from Sequatchie County inside the GCHS locker room to try on jerseys, take photos,  and ride a team bus to Tullahoma High School to meet Josh Dobbs.

Hayworth  must sit out this season’s home games vs South Pittsburg and York. Meeks must sit out the home game vs Bledsoe County and road game at DeKalb County.
No financial fines been levied, but there are other penalties for the football team.

If either coach is seen on the GCHS campus during the games they’re suspended for, they will be immediately terminated, according to TSSAA.
