Posted on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 2:01 pm

As spring tournament season begins, the GCHS Bass Team continues to be a dominate force in Tennessee Bass Nation high school fishing. The team of Stuart and Abbigail Roggli lead both the Statewide open trail points race and the South Central region points race for Team of the Year honors. Team of the Year is equal to Angler of the Year which all fishermen in every organization covet.
The team of Grant Dees and Ben Freeman are tied for second in the statewide race and are tied for 10th in the regional standings after a 5th place finish Saturday on Tims Ford in the first South Central tournament of the spring. Grundy teams finished 5th through 8th in the 70 boat field with Dees and Freeman weighing in 10.58 pounds Case Anderson and Grant Hodosi in 6th with 10.56, Stuart and Abbigail Roggli in 7th with 10.47 and Eli Stevenson and Peyton Price in 8th with 10.25. Grundy has eight boats competing on the high school level this year.
Luke Meeks and Turner Cash had their best finish so far this school year for the Grundy Jr. Bassmasters taking 2nd place out of 21 boats with 5.69 pounds and had big fish honors with a 3.83 pound fish. Grundy has 7 junior boats in competition this year.
Next up, the teams will compete in the Tennessee Bass Nation High School Open #4 on Center Hill Lake, March 3, out of Ragland Bottom ramp. The Grundy teams will fish all over the state before the spring is done and some will also fish in the Bassmaster High School Southern Open on Lay Lake in Alabama in March. All these events give the teams a chance to qualify for and fish the Bassmaster High School National Championship on Kentucky Lake August 2-4.
