Franklin Hill n2Franklin Allen Hill was born on August 1, 1943, in Sherwood to Joseph and Claudia Hill. He moved to Murfreesboro and lived there from 1965-1980. He now resides in Tracy City. His brothers and sisters are, Mary, Jack, James, Sue, and Ruth Hill. He remembers his dad working at Gagger Lime Company until it shut down in 1949 and then at Miller’s General Merchandise in Sherwood.
He grew up in Sherwood and attended Sherwood Elementary School. His high school years were spent at Franklin County High School. He had no dreams of furthering his education past high school. Two people, however, were determined that he was going to college. These awesome ladies were Mrs. Mary Lou Warmrod and Mrs. Eleanor Murray, for whom he is so grateful. He was taken under their wings. They helped him get two scholarships and an NDEA loan. After graduating from FCHS in 1961, he attended MTSU and graduated from there in 1965. He began his teaching career at Good Elementary School in the fall of 1965 and remained there until 1980. That was located in Murfreesboro.
During the time he was teaching, he married a loving wife, Ethylene Nutley in 1971. They had two boys, Michael and Marcus. Michael and his wife, Crystal, have two children. Marcus and his wife, Star, have three children and are expecting a fourth.
After his years of teaching in Murfreesboro, he and his wife moved to Tracy City where he accepted the call as pastor of the church known as Mt. Calvary Apostolic Church. He also taught at Tracy City Elementary School. He retired from teaching in May, 2006, after 41 years.
There were a lot of changes during his lifetime. Mr. Hill explained, “Life is more hectic and there is a steady decline in morality. Things are different these days.” He had fun experiences. Most of them consisted of just spending time with his family and friends. “Happiness and laughter are important to me,” Mr. Hill commented when asked about what was important. The most exciting thing that ever happened to him was getting married and becoming a pastor.
He has had a life that has been full. He is so thankful for his family and all the friends he has made along the way. Most of all, he thanks God for all his bountiful blessings!
