The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office has arrested five people for a series of weekend thefts in Tracy City and Altamont.
Sheriff Clint Shrum stated that on Friday morning, deputies took reports on two separate incidents in the White City area. An ATV and trailer were taken from a residence on White City Circle. An air compressor was taken from another residence on Hwy 150.
The following morning, deputies received a tip that the ATV and trailer were at a location on Myers Hill Road, being spray painted black. When deputies arrived, they found the trailer and ATV missing from the location.
Shortly afterwards, a property owner noticed two individuals running away from an ATV that was stuck in a field. The ATV was identified as the one that had been stolen earlier.
“Through the help of great community interaction, investigators were able to identify the two individuals who fled from the stolen four-wheeler. This kind of cooperation was instrumental in helping investigators break this case, and we are very appreciative for it,” said Sheriff Shrum.
Throughout the course of the investigation, Sheriff’s investigators learned several more individuals were involved in a string of thefts including one in Altamont where several guns had been stolen.
Arrested were Robert Allan Ekis (18) of Altamont; Garrett Williams (23) of Monteagle; Johnny William Stephens, Jr. (31) of Tracy City; Dakota Morris (18) of Pelham, and Amanda Brooke Nunley (33) of Tracy City.
Sheriff Shrum asks that if anyone has purchased any items from these individuals in the past several weeks to please contact Sgt. Larry Sims at 931-692-3466.
“We are trying to recover the property and return it to the rightful owners,” explained the Sheriff.
