At last week’s Grundy County School Board meeting, the board voted to offer Interim Director of Schools Glenda Dykes a two-year contract as Grundy County Director of Schools.
Graduating with a Bachelor of Science from MTSU in 1984, Dykes went on to graduate from TTU in 2005 with a Master of Arts, and in 2006 with an Ed. S. degree. Dykes’ experience includes 23 years as a teacher for the Marion County Board of Education, four years at Coalmont Elementary School, two years as a District Instructional Coach, and serving for the past four years as Principal of Tracy City Elementary School.
Dykes is the daughter of Maxine Mayes and the late Glen Mayes of Tracy City. She has been married to Robin Dykes (a welding teacher at Grundy County High School for 22 years) for 33 years. They have two sons, Derrick (Ari) Dykes, who graduated from TTU in 2010 as a mechanical engineer, and Cody Dykes, who graduated from TTU in 2016 as a MIT engineer. Dykes and her husband attend the Central Church of Christ in Tracy City, where they reside.
