Discover Together and TCES bring STEM learning experience to students
Thanks to a partnership between Discover Together and Tracy City Elementary, all TCE students got the chance to mingle with the stars; the stars of our galaxy, that is! Susan Johnson, Community Ambassador with Discover Together, coordinated with Jere Matty of the Arnold Airforce Base Educational Outreach program to bring a planetarium to the school.
The AEDC STEM Discovery Dome, capable of hosting up to 35 students and their teacher, provided a full planetarium experience as well as STEM surround sound/videos tailored to the grade level of the students. The students emerged from the Dome with laughter and excitement, desiring to see more.
In an effort to involve parents and the community, the STEM Discovery Dome was held over for two extra shows after school, allowing parents to visit the Dome with their children. Discover Together provided supper for the families and offered a $10 gift card for those choosing to participate in the Discover Together Community Survey.
Discover Together would like to thank TCE Principal, Glenda Dykes, and all of the faculty and staff of TCE who helped make the day’s events so successful. “It would be great if every school in the county would host the planetarium!” commented Johnson. “Experiences like this can spark an interest in our children to study science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and it’s never too early to plant that seed!”
