Join the Grundy County Democratic Party as they host a “Warmth in Winter” rally and chili supper at the Gruetli-Laager Community Center on Friday, February 5, at 6 p.m. The event will kick off early voting which begins Wednesday, February 10.
State Representative Kevin Dunlap is the keynote speaker for the rally. The local party has a vision to see the day when Grundy County has a 100 percent educated voter turnout, and hopes to bring together individuals for healthy discussion while giving Grundy County citizens an opportunity to voice their concerns to the leaders that represent the area.
Event Committee Chair Sue B. Parrott has invited local and federal candidates or representatives to speak briefly at the event, with the hopes of giving the people of Grundy County the opportunity to meet the candidates and hear their dreams and plans for this area. “Government and politics play a very important role in the lives of citizens, so we need to make sure that the people in every office are really going to represent our ideas and interest at every level. We all need to let our voice be heard,” stated GCDP Chair Rebecca Hafford.
The local party will provide a chili supper with all the fixings at a cost of $7.00 per person (children twelve and under will be admitted at no cost). Tickets will be available at the door or advance tickets can be purchased from any of the following: Rebecca Hafford, Chair; Bunny Hall, Treasurer; Shirley Williams, Secretary; Sue B. Parrott, Event Chair; and GCDP members Tim Spicer, Joanne Childers, Tammy Sholey, Melody Oliver, Clint Shrum, Trey Anderson, Tyler McCullough, Phyllis Dent, Turkey Hargis, Michael Brady, or Gayle VanHooser.
The local party meets monthly on the first Tuesday on each month at the Grundy County Courthouse at 5 p.m. Chairperson Hafford cordially invites citizens to attend the meetings and bring thoughts and ideas of ways that your local party can work toward a brighter tomorrow for Grundy County. “Let’s work together for the common good!” says Hafford.
Early voting will be held at the Florence Scruggs Building in Altamont, and the South Cumberland Visitor’s Center between Monteagle and Tracy City, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., weekdays, and 9 a.m. until 12 p.m., on Saturdays. Election Day is Tuesday, March 1.
