In their fourth year as a GCHS sport, Cross Country has grown by leaps and bounds! With six runners returning this year, the team was excited to welcome twelve additional runners to the program. After conditioning in the spring and running most of the summer, the eighteen GCXC runners were anxious to get started this season.
On August 20, the team traveled to Cookeville to compete in the MSCCA jamboree with a host of other regional schools. For many of the runners, this was their first time to compete, and they did well. Only nine days later, the team traveled to Smyrna for the Voyles Classic where they competed with 50-plus schools from Middle Tennessee. Once again, the team ran very well.
Last Tuesday, GCXC ran their first regular season meet at Warren County High School where they competed against Cannon County, Coffee County, Franklin County, Saint Andrews, and Warren County. John David Dickerson, II was the overall winner of the 3.1-mile race with a time of 18:26. Other medalists were Austin Campbell (19:13), Jathan Campbell (19:51), Shanda Thomas (27:49), and Clarissa Meeks (29:51). The men’s team ran very well and finished second in the team score. The ladies, with only four runners, were unable to receive a team score since they only have four runners instead of the required five.
This week the team traveled to Saint Andrews, but no results were available at press time.
No half times, no substitutions, no time-outs … Go run!
