The head coach of the Coffee County Central High School baseball coach has been arrested on charges of statutory rape by an authority figure, according to authorities.
Brad Weir, 44, of Manchester, was arrested Tuesday morning by Manchester Police Department Investigator Butch Stewart after complaints were lodged with the department.
According to Chief Investigator Billy Butler, the coach was arrested Tuesday, February 3, around 9:30 a.m. by police as he left his residence on Hills Chapel Road in Manchester. Police were in the area of his apartment when he left for the day.
“We arrested Weir at the request of District Attorney Craig Northcott for an incident that allegedly took place with a 15-year-old female on Jan. 29 at his residence,” Butler said.
The girl is a student at Red Raider Academy in Manchester where Weir taught physical education, according to authorities.
According to Coffee County Director of Schools Dr. LaDonna McFall, Weir has been suspended without pay from all employment pending an investigation. The director said at this point the case in the hands of law enforcement. He was hired as head baseball coach last May.
According to Butler, the investigation in the case is continuing.
Weir is being held in the Coffee County Jail under a $100,000 bond.
