George Clay received high honors and recognition at the 2015 Swisher Sweets / Sunbelt Expo Southeastern Farmer of the Year Awards Program held in Moultrie, Georgia on October 19-20, 2015. Clay also received a green sports jacket which represents excellence in agriculture along with other notable awards. He was accompanied by his family, friends, and supporters in Moultrie who also participated in the program and sponsored activities.

In the previous 25 years of the award, over $1 million has been awarded to state and overall winners.

George and Edwene Clay and their sons Eddie, Eric, and Keith, all participate in farm activities and partner with George to insure continued success. They farm more than 2,100 acres and raise corn, soybeans, and wheat as well as manage commercial beef cattle on their farm. The Clay-Clay Farm always uses the most modern equipment and technologies and strives to maximize yields and profits while conserving the land and environment.

“We are very excited and encouraged by all of the positive recognition that Clay-Clay Farms in Pelham has received. Clay and his family do a great job on their farm and have made the citizens of Grundy County and Tennessee proud,” said Creig Kimbro, UT Extension Agent/Grundy County Director. Kimbro says, “even though the Clays didn’t win the overall farmer of the year award they were very deserving of it.” He suspects that they were one of the top farmers out of the other nine Southeastern state delegates present.

Danny Kornegay, a diversified farmer from Princeton, North Carolina, was selected as the overall winner of the Swisher Sweets/Sunbelt Expo Southeastern Farmer of the Year award for 2015. Kornegay was named as the overall winner during the Willie B. Withers Luncheon held on October 20, 2015 which is the opening day of the 2015 Sunbelt Ag Expo farm show.
