As part of the Governor’s Drive to 55 by the 2025 initiative, the TN Reconnect Grant (TNRG) announced last month provides free tuition to qualifying adults attending a Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) beginning fall 2015. On Saturday, March 28, the Amnicola Highway campus of Chattanooga State Community College will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. so that the community can explore the programs, labs and facilities available at the college.
TCAT Chattanooga faculty and staff will answer questions about the 18 one-year programs and five certificate programs available. Potential adult students may apply to the college and complete the FAFSA form, then apply for financial aid and the TNRG grant all on the same day.
According to the TN Reconnect website, “Tennessee has between 900,000 and 1 million adults with some college but no degree. It is impossible to achieve the mission of the Drive to 55 without re-engaging these students and helping them finish their degree or certificate.” Benefits include improving your job options, earning more money at your current or future job, feeling a sense of accomplishment, setting up an expectation of academic success for your family, and being a role model for others.
