A worker for James Gang Amusements, the provider of carnival rides at the Grundy County Fair, has been accused of inappropriately touching a minor child at the August fair.
The alleged incident occurred on Friday, August 24, on the Catch-N-Air ride. The young girl states she was inappropriately touched while operator John White (who has no prior arrests or convictions on his criminal record) was buckling her into her seat. The girl was attending the fair with family friends who were alerted to the incident and informed her parents when returning to girl’s home.
The girl’s family reported the incident to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department that evening, and met with the ride operator, sheriff’s deputies, and fair board members on the following Sunday morning.
Sheriff Shrum told the Herald that an investigation into the incident has been opened and reported to DCS. DCS will conduct a forensic interview with the girl as the investigation moves forward.
Calls to Scotty Hoosier, president of the Fair Association, were not returned. However, Fair Association secretary/treasurer Jennifer Thompson said that as of last week, a complaint had not been filed with the association, only with the Sheriff’s Office.
