James Campbell, the 2015 recipient of the 30th annual Palmer Veteran’s Appreciation Award, was honored during the Veteran’s Day ceremonies at Palmer School.
The school has a special meaning for the family. Campbell, Mary Campbell, and their brother Charlie Campbell all graduated from the school, as did James’ son Jimmy Campbell and daughter Michelle Travis. The third generation has continued the tradition with the graduation of James’ grandsons Kevin Campbell, Dakota Travis, Nathan Travis, and Ryan Travis.
“It was also a special day for me,” said David Patton, Palmer Town Historian. “For 30 consecutive years, I have been able to personally hand the recipient the plaque and have not had any sickness, accident, or anything else that would have prevented me from doing so. Talk about being blessed! You can rest assured, this will be one of the many blessings I’ll be counting on Thanksgiving Day.”
Patton added, “We sincerely appreciate the warm hospitality of Principal John Ross Jones and Pam Meeks. The entire celebration was wonderful and I really enjoyed the singing of Jessica Childers’ students. They were so focused and organized.”
