Grundy County pastor William E. “Tim” Smith has waived a preliminary hearing in the case of attempted child rape that led to his arrest last month.
Smith was arrested on May 31, when Grundy County Sheriff deputies found him with a 12-year-old off female off Ross Creek Road in Gruetli-Laager. Read from the incident report here.
Smith appeared in General Sessions Court on June 5, before Judge Trey Anderson. This was his first court appearance after the arrest during which he waived his right to a preliminary hearing.
Anderson bound the case over to the Grand Jury and set a $200,000 bond. If Smith posts bond he will have to wear a tracking device and have no contact with the victim.
At press time, Smith remained in custody at the Grundy County Jail.
The Grand Jury meets on July 9.
