Big 8 Tournament Update

Winter weather update: Grundy County Schools cancelled Tuesday night’s games and here is the up-dated schedule – Tuesday’s games will be played Thursday. All semi-final games will be played on Friday beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday’s schedule stays the same. All Confer-ence awards are still Thursday.

The Big 8 tournament started last Saturday night, at GCHS with five first-round games. Saturday night saw two girls’ games in action. Second seeded Tracy City defeated sev-enth seeded Coalmont 40 – 5, and sixth seeded Monteagle upset third seeded Pelham 25 -23. There were three boys’ games. Top seeded North defeated eighth seeded Coalmont 58 -5, second seeded St. Andrews – Se-wanee defeated seventh seeded Palmer 47 – 28, and third seeded Mon-teagle defeated sixth seeded Pelham 34 – 26.
Tuesday night, the fourth and fifth seeded teams were set to play. In the girls’ contest fourth seeded Palmer played fifth seeded Swiss Memorial. In the boys’ game fourth seeded Tracy City battled fifth seeded Swiss Memo-rial.
Tonight, in the 6 p.m. game, North will battle the winner of the Tracy City – Swiss Memorial winner in a boys’ game. Following the All Conference awards, St. Andrews – Sewanee will battle Monteagle.
Tomorrow, night at 6 p.m., the North girls will battle the winner of the Palmer – Swiss Memorial game. Following that con-test, Tracy City will play Monteagle in the other girls’ semi – final game.
Saturday will feature the losers of the semi – fi-nal matchups in the conso-lation games and the win-ners facing each other in the championship round.
