The Grundy County Bass team took first place at the Cherokee Lake Fishing Tournament this past weekend.
The team of Case Anderson and Grant Hodosi finished in first place, winning the tournament with a final weight of 11.12. That was 1.47 better than the second place team from Warren County. The effort by the champions was worth $1,000 in scholarship winnings.
The team of Austin Birdwell and Hunter Christian finished in sixth place with a final weight of 6.37.
The championship team had the following to say about the tournament: Hodosi said, “One thing I have learned this weekend is to never give up and no matter how low you get on yourself, you must always have positive thoughts.”
Anderson said, “On Friday our practice didn’t go well. On Saturday, due to fog, our boat captain thought we should be safe and fish a few close islands that had chunk rock on it until the fog cleared. Well that was the difference, fishing islands and it worked. We caught our fish on a white buzz bait. With 10 minutes left, we put our fifth fish in the boat and off to the weigh in we went. Pretty awesome feeling winning first place in back-to-back years on Cherokee Lake.
A great outing once again for the GCHS Bass team!
