The Jackets traveled to Signal Mountain Monday night for their play-in game and fell to the Eagles. The Lady Jackets saw their season come to an end Tuesday night in Pikeville as they fell to the Lady Warriors. The losses brought the 2014-15 season to a close for both teams.
The Lady Jackets finished the season 11-19 while the men finished 6-23.
Named to the All District 7AA team or the regular season from Grundy were Teah Bosio, MiKayla Williams, Tanner Smartt and Trey Hampton.
Bledsoe Co. 55 – Grundy 47
Grundy led throughout the first half as they were up 14-10 after one and 24-22 at the half. A third quarter letdown where Bledsoe outscored them 12-5 put them down by five. Both teams were hot in the fourth quarter but Bledsoe’s 21-18 effort eliminated the Lady Jackets from tournament play.
“This was a heartbreaking game. The game that ends your season is always a hard game. We started the game strong and played well. And even with players in foul trouble were able to go into the half up by two.
Starting the second half Bledsoe shot a three in the first possession and hit it putting them up by one and sadly that set the tone for the rest of the game. We never regained a lead from that point. We missed several shots that really hurt us. We missed nine free throws and hitting a few of those could have possibly made a difference in the game at that time.
I was proud of the fact that the girls never gave up even though we were down. They continued to battle but it was not enough to overcome,” said Coach Julie Davis.
MiKayla Williams led the Lady Jackets with 12 points. Madison Burrows followed with 10 including two threes. Teah Bosio tossed in nine with two threes. Peyton Eads added eight. Kelsey Arbuckle and Hannah Phillips scored four each.
Signal Mountain 52 – Grundy 37
The game crept away from Grundy all night as the Eagles led from start to finish. Grundy trailed by three after one, 10 at the half and
12 after three. Down 38-26 starting the final quarter Grundy made a run but came only got as close as six points.
“We played as well defensively in this game as we had all year. We had them confused and searching for ways to score. The only problem is that we were struggling to score too. They held the lead the whole game, but our guys never gave up. We hit a couple of big shots and our defensive pressure started to cause turnovers and we were right back in the game. In the 4th quarter, with 4 minutes left, we cut the lead to six. If we would have had a couple more things go our way we could have easily won the game,” said Coach Justin Bryant.
“I just want to thank our players for all their hard work and dedication to this team this season. Also, I want to thank my assistant coaches, Nick Bryant, Derek Moon and Kevin Butner that helped me in so many ways,” added Bryant.
Terrince Bramhall topped the Jackets in their final game with 13 points. Jacob Martin followed with eight including two threes. Trevor Hampton and Tanner Smartt scored six each. Trey Hampton hit one three.
Boo Goins added one point.
