Baseball Wins 5 out of 7

The Jackets got several games in last week and notched five wins in seven tries. They improved their overall record to 18-9 and upped their district mark to 3-1. Rain moved Monday’s game with Signal Mountain to Tuesday and weather could have pushed both games with the Eagles off another day.

Tuesday the Jackets traveled to Signal Mountain. Friday they travel to Sale Creek for a 5:30 start. Saturday they host DeKalb County at 3:00 and that game will see the final induction this school year for the Grundy County Sports Hall of Fame with Coach Frank Clay being inducted. Monday they travel to Notre Dame for a 4:00 start. Tuesday they host the Irish at 5:30. Get out and support the Yellow Jackets this week Yellow Jacket fans!

Grundy 7 –

Chattanooga Christian 3

After a 2-2 first inning CCS took a 3-2 lead in the second. The Jacket bats would take the lead back in the top of the fourth with 2 runs. The defense held and Grundy would add one in each of the last three innings to win by four.

Several Jacket batters would notch one hit in the win. Dylan Cleek was 1 for 2 with a RBI and 2 runs scored. Zach Sanders was 1 for 3 with a double, a RBI and a run. Schylar Burgess and Elijah Bean were 1 for 3 with a run each. Cameron Caldwell hit 1 for 3 and Cole Johnson was 1 for 4. Ethan Smith had a RBI.

Houston Mainord pitched the win and went the distance. He struck out four.

Grundy 5 –

Chattanooga Christian 4

April 9 in Coalmont CCS took a 3-0 lead after five innings and Grundy had to rally for the win. The Jackets posted two in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to one but CCS added one back in the top of the seventh. With the game tied 4-4 Schylar Burgess jacked one to the fence that drove in the winning run.

Burgess was 2 for 4 with a triple, 2 RBIs and a run scored. Tanner Foutch hit 2 for 3. Chandler Knight was 1 for 3 a run. Cameron Caldwell was 1 for 3 with a RBI. Zach Sanders hit 1 for 2 with a run. Cole Johnson was 1 for 4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Dylan Cleek and Elijah Bean were both 1 for 4 with a run each.

Chandler Knight got the win pitching six and a third innings and striking out 10. Tanner Foutch got the save pitching the final two thirds innings striking out two.

Grundy 11 – Sale Creek 2

The Jackets opened play in the Mountain Valley Classic with a nine run drubbing of Sale Creek. Grundy posted five in the first, four in the second and three in the third to dominate the contest. Sale Creek managed their two runs in the fifth.

Multiple Grundy batters saw action and got hits in this one. Chandler Knight was 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored. Tanner Foutch went 2 for 3 with a run. Taten McBee was 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs. Dylan Cleek hit 1 for 1 with a RBI and a run. Cole Johnson was 1 for 4 with a double and 2 runs scored. Zach Sanders went 1 for 1 with a RBI and 2 runs. Schylar Burgess was 1 for 2 with a RBI and a run. Kasey Brown hit 1 for 1 with a RBI. Hogan Holland was 1 for 2 with a run. Dakota Cleek was 1 for 2 with a run. Elijah Bean also scored a run.

Schylar Burgess pitched the win and struck out three.

Grundy 3 – Page 1

Grundy held a 1-0 lead from the first inning until Page tied things up in the top of the seventh. Elijah Bean’s walk off homer in the bottom of the inning drove in the two run difference.

Bean was 1 for 4 at the plate with the homer, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Zach Sanders was 1 for 3 with a RBI. Tanner Foutch went 1 for 2 with a run scored. Cole Johnson was 1 for 2 and Ethan Smith went 1 for 3 to round out the Grundy hits.

Bean went the distance on the mound notching the win and striking out three.

Grundy 8 – Huntsville 1

The Jacket defense stayed hot and their bats got warmed up in this one too as they posted two runs in the first, third, fifth and seventh to take the win. Huntsville’s lone run came in the sixth.

Cameron Caldwell exploded at the plate going 4 for 4 with a double, a RBI and a run scored. Cole Johnson was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and a run. Elijah Bean hit 2 for 4. Chandler Knight was 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored. Dylan Cleek hit 1 for 3 and scored 3 runs. Zach Sanders was 1 for 3 with a RBI and a run. Kasey Brown hit 1 for 4 with a RBI.

           Tanner Foutch tossed the win going the distance on the mound and registering nine strikeouts in the game.

Silverdale Baptist 9 –

Grundy 5

Grundy didn’t do as well in their final two games of the tourney and fell to Silverdale’s run rally in the second half of the contest. The Jackets were down 2-1 after one but drove in three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-1 lead. Silverdale tied it up with two in the fourth and took command with one in the fifth, one in the sixth and three in the seventh. Grundy’s final run came in the sixth.

Chandler Knight led at the plate hitting 3 for 4 with a double and 2 runs scored. Taten McBee was 1 for 3 with a double and a run. Elijah Bean was 1 for 3 with a run. Kasey Brown also went 1 for 3. Zach Sanders was 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Schylar Burgess hit 1 for 4 with a double. Dylan Cleek scored a run.

Hogan Holland suffered the loss pitching five innings and striking out one. Cameron Caldwell pitched two innings of relief and struck out four. 

Sequatchie Co. 9 –

Grundy 6

The Jackets fell to the Indians in the tournament after they failed to hold on to an early lead. Grundy jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first. Sequatchie posted one in the top of the third but Grundy got it back in the bottom. An eight run fourth inning for the Indians put them in charge. The Jackets shaved two off in the bottom but couldn’t add any more.

Chandler Knight led at the plate going 3 for 4 with a run scored. Cameron Caldwell was 2 for 3. Elijah Bean hit 2 for 4 with a triple and 2 runs scored. Cole Johnson was 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs. Dylan Cleek jacked a triple going 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored. Ethan Smith was 1 for 3 with a run. Zach Sanders had a RBI.

Taten McBee suffered the loss pitching the first four innings and striking out one. Zach Sanders pitched the final three innings in relief and also struck out one.
