Baseball and Softball Seasons Officially Open

Monday marked the official opening day for spring sports in Tennessee. The 2017 editions of the Grundy County baseball and softball teams were set to open their seasons on opening day, if the weather cooperated. The Jacket baseball team traveled to South Pittsburg to battle the Pirates. The Lady Jacket softball team was preparing to host district foe Bledsoe County.

The Yellow Jackets were to return home on Tuesday, to square off with the Pirates. The Jackets will participate in the District 7-AA early season tournament beginning tonight as they travel to Signal Mountain. The first pitch is slated for 5 p.m. CST.  Friday night, the Jackets will host the Sequatchie County Indians at 4 p.m., and the Bledsoe County Warriors at 8 p.m.  The Warriors and Indians will meet at 6 p.m., at GCHS. On Saturday, the Jackets will travel to Sequatchie County High School to play Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m., and Chattanooga Christian at

6:30 p.m.

The Lady Jacket softball team was set to travel to Moore County Tuesday. The Lady Jackets travel to Chattanooga Christian today for a District 7-AA contest with the Lady Chargers at 5 p.m. CST.  The Lady Jackets return home Tuesday, March 21, to host district rival Sequatchie County at 5 p.m.  Wednesday, the Lady Jackets will host the Lady Tigers of Whitwell in front of the student body at 1:30 p.m.

Both teams have a lot of games in the coming week, so baseball and softball fans you will have plenty of opportunities to catch the action.
