Thomas Andrews was set for sentencing last Friday, but Judge Curtis Smith delayed his decision and is allowing attorneys for both sides to submit further information that may aid in his decision process.
Andrews, 41, pled guilty to two counts of statutory rape in June. At the time of his December 2015, arrest, Andrews was a teacher at Swiss Memorial Elementary School and assistant football coach at Grundy County High School. He was immediately suspended of all duties when arrested. He was released from jail on a $60,000 bond and required to wear a GPS monitoring device to ensure he had no contact with the victim.
The Grand Jury indicted Andrews for statutory rape by an authority on March 14.
Smith informed the court on Friday, after character witnesses spoke for Andrews, that attorneys have 10 days to submit further information, which he will review and make a sentencing decision.
