Grundy County Mayor Michael Brady has issued a Proclamation that the week of November 15-21 will be observed as Ag Literacy Week in Grundy County.
Mayor Brady has also given permission for the major agricultural organizations (4-H, FFA, YF and R, and Farm Bureau Women) to erect a display in the Courthouse lobby to educate the citizens about the agricultural history and current impact in Grundy County. The title of the display will be “Grundy Agriculture Then and Now” and will consist of a 12-foot by 6 – foot freestanding kiosk when assembled. Photos, newspaper clippings, and more will depict activities from the past by each organization, as well as current projects and recognitions. Many citizens may see information about their parents, grandparents, or even themselves.
Dr. Willie Childers, current Director of Schools has also given permission for volunteers to visit the elementary schools during Ag Literacy Week to read books recommended by the Ag-In-The-Classroom Foundation to the students. School principals will be contacted by the volunteers in each community to arrange the day, time, and grade for each reading session.
