The Kirby-Smith Chapter 327 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy honored General Edmund Kirby-Smith on his birthday, May 16. The event took place in the University Cemetery in Sewanee.
Chapter President Ginger Delius presented a program on the life of the General. An a cappella music program was provided by Kirby E. Crabtree of Monteagle, who serves as Chaplain of the General A.P. Stewart SCV Camp #1411.
Among the honored guest were Matilda Speck, Tennessee Division President, and Barbara Parsons, a past Tennessee Division President.
Following the War Between the States, General Kirby-Smith was a professor of mathematics and botany at the University of the South. The General died March 28, 1893, at his home in Sewanee.
