Softball Defeats Sequatchie County

The Grundy County Lady Jacket softball team had a heavy schedule last week playing eight games in six days. Two of those games were district games and although the team went 3 – 5 during the week, two of the victories were against Bledsoe County and Sequatchie County. The other victory was against Lookout Valley at the Lookout Valley Invitational.

The Lady Jackets started the week losing on the road 6 – 5 to South Pittsburg on Monday. On Tuesday, the team traveled to Pikeville and avenged an early season loss to the Lady Warriors of Bledsoe County, 9 – 1. The team stayed on the road Wednesday and lost to Tullahoma 11 – 1. Last Thursday, the Lady Jackets hosted Sequatchie County and came away with a 4 – 2 district win. The Lady Jackets closed out their busy week with four games in the Yellow Jacket Invitational at Lookout Valley. They lost on Friday to Silverdale and Whitwell, while defeating Lookout Valley 9 – 2. The Lady Jackets ended the week losing to Marion County.

The Lady Jackets are currently 7 – 13 overall and 3 – 2 in District 7-AA. The team didn’t have much rest as they hit the road again Monday to Signal Mountain. Tuesday, they hosted Notre Dame and yesterday traveled to Whitwell for a day game in front of Whitwell’s student body. Today, they play host to district foe Chattanooga Christian at 6 p.m. After a well deserved weekend off, the Lady Jackets host Signal Mountain at 5 p.m., on Monday. On Tuesday, they travel to Dunlap to play Sequatchie County.

South Pittsburg 6 Lady Jackets 5

The Lady Jackets gave up three first inning runs and trailed 3 – 1 after five innings. A four run sixth put them up 5 – 3 before the Lady Pirates scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull out the victory. Teah Bosio had two hits, while Meleah Stevens and Bailee Sweeton had two RBIs.

Lady Jackets 9 Bledsoe County 1

Makayla Nunley gave up four hits and one unearned run, while striking out four and walking two to earn the win. Bosio had three hits, while Chloe Scissom, Emma Seagroves, and Stevens had two hits each. Sweeton added a double. Stevens also knocked in four runs. The win avenged a home loss to the Lady Warriors a couple of weeks ago.

Tullahoma 11 Lady Jackets 1

The Lady Jackets were no match for the Lady Wildcats as they lost the five-inning affair. Bosio had two of the Lady Jackets’ four hits.

Lady Jackets 4 Sequatchie County 2

The Lady Jackets garnered their third district win of the year against perennial district champion Sequatchie County with a two run rally in the bottom of the sixth to break a 2 – 2 tie and held off the Lady Indians for the 4 – 2 win. The Lady Jackets got another fine pitching performance from Nunley. She struck out five and walked one, while scattering seven hits. Kristin Weaver, Bosio, and Scissom all had two hits. Emilee Meeks added a double. Meeks also drove home three runs and Bosio scored three runs.

Silverdale 7 Lady Jackets 2

The Lady Jackets gave up seven runs to Silverdale in the fifth inning for the loss. Bosio, Scissom, and Weaver had hits and Scissom had two RBIs.

Lady Jackets 9 Lookout Valley 2

The Lady Jackets avenged another early season loss by scoring three runs in the first, second, and sixth innings to seal the win. Bosio had four hits and scored three runs to lead the offensive attack. Emilee Meeks and Weaver had two hits. Emilee Meeks drove in three runs and Kara Meeks drove home two runs.

Whitwell 7 Lady Jackets 0

The Lady Jackets managed only three hits in the shutout. The Lady Tigers scored six runs in the third to give them more than enough runs for the win.

Marion County 5 Lady Jackets 1

The Lady Jackets concluded a long week with the 5 – 1 loss to the Lady Warriors. Bosio and Emilee Meeks had two hits each, while Kara Meeks added a double. Bosio scored the Lady Jacket run and Emilee Meeks had the RBI.
