At the regular monthly meeting of the Grundy County Commissioners held on February 24, Resolution No. 14-2-24A was unanimously passed to recognize Dr. Byron Harbolt for the many years of service to Grundy County.
The resolution stated:
Whereas, Dr. Byron Harbolt was born on July 30, 1923 in North Alabama and moved to Monteagle, TN, living in Summerfield from 1932 to 1936; and
Whereas, Dr. Byron Harbolt moved several places before ending in Greenville where he took nurse’s training; and
Whereas, Dr. Byron Harbolt studied medicine in Kansas City, moved back to Grundy County in 1960 and began practicing medicine; and
Whereas, Dr. Byron Harbolt has been a pivotal cornerstone of the Grundy County community, providing different health care services to many Grundy County citizens and delivering countless babies in the Grundy County area, regardless of the patients’ ability to pay; and
Whereas, Dr. Byron Harbolt has been a valuable asset to Grundy County, Tennessee, providing services to the Grundy County Jail and serving as the medical examiner for the county for many years; and
Whereas, Dr. Byron Harbolt has received many honors throughout his career, including the Distinguished Citizens Award in 1987 and the Jefferson Award in 1996, just to name a few, and was a driving force behind Grundy County radio WSGM.
Now, therefore, be it resolved by action of the Board of Grundy County Commissioners meeting in regular session this 24th day of February, 2014, Grundy County recognizes and expresses its sincerest appreciation to Dr. Byron Harbolt for a lifetime of hard work and dedication to the people of Grundy County. Grundy County has been blessed to have Dr. Harbolt and his staff for many years and hope that he enjoys a well-deserved retirement.
