JONES, DUSTY, L., 28, died Tuesday January 26, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Gracie Layne Jones; daughter, Sydney Jones; son, Brady Jones; step-son, Avery Jones; parents, William and Beverly Jones; brother, Chip Jones; sister, Kacie Jones; grandparents, Clayton and Beverly Jones, Bill and Daphine Meadows; aunts, Sherry (Mike) Johnson, Darlene (Estill) Knight; uncles, Gerald (Amanda) Jones, Billy (Brenda) Meadows; niece, Amber Jones; nephews, Logan and Conner Jones; close friend, Chris Nunley. Graveside funeral services were held Sunday, January 31 at the Coalmont Cemetery with Minister Clayton Jones officiating. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.
ROSS, REV. CHARLES, O. "COTTON, 85, of the Griffiths Creek Community, died Sunday January 31, 2010. He was the Pastor at Laager Congregational Methodist Church for close to 50 years and had pastored churches since 1951. He performed numerous weddings, funerals and was always there for anyone who had a need. He was instrumental in establishing the Church in Bryants Cove and the Laager Methodist Youth Camp on Palmer Mountain in which he took great pride. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac Ross (who was a deacon at Laager Methodist) and Winnie Davis Ross; brothers, Benny and James; sisters, Evelyn Ross, Gladys Tate and Velma Coppinger. He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue DeLong Ross; sons, Billy C. (Gail) and Anthony W. (Elizabeth) Ross; daughters, Susan Weaver and Sharon (Anthony "Big Boy") Griffith; brother, George (Betty) Ross; sisters, Essie (Essel) Kilgore, Joan (Bud) Sanders and Eleanor (Thruman) Magourik; grandchildren, Michael (Keilli) Ross, Michelle (Davy) Fenton, Stephanie (Matt) Garrett, Josh, Kristen and Isaac Ross; great-grandchildren, CC, Austin, Carter, Danielle, Levi, Evie Gail, Olivia and Gabriel. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 4 at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with ministers, Bill Ross, Jacob Anderson and Mike Rigsby officiating. Burial will be in Griffiths Creek Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.
BERRY, DOROTHA, "DOT," 87, of Tracy City, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010 in Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. She was a daughter of the late John Jesse Worley and Eva Hamby Worley and was preceded in death by her husband, George W. "Red" Berry; sons, Wayne Berry and George W. "Bubba" Berry, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Louise Lockhart Berry; grandson, David Berry; brothers, James, Ernest, Ershel and Charles Worley; sister, Olline Scott. Survivors include her children, Brenda (Ricky) Harrison, Monteagle; Darlene (Marty) Shope, Ringgold, GA; Johnnie (Mike) Manley, Tracy City; grandchildren, Lisa, Pam, Chris, Dwayne, Michael, Shane, Kerri, Miranda, Deanna, Jeremy and Jaime; 16 great grandchildren; brother, Paul Worley, Tracy City; sisters, Annie Sue Tipton and Lucille Shrum, both of Tracy City; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 30 in the chapel of Cumberland Funeral Home with the Reverend Lloyd Crisp officiating. Burial was in Plainview Cemetery. ROBERTS, BERTA, LEOLA, BESS, 74, of McMinnville, TN, passed away January 26, 2010 at DeKalb Community Hospital in Smithville, TN. She was preceded in death by parents, Leo and Burton Smartt Bess, Sr.; brother Leo Bess, Jr.; daughter, Geraldean Roberts. Survivors include husband, Rev. George W. Roberts, McMinnville, TN; sons and daughter-in-laws, George Washington and Beverly Dianne Roberts, Jr., Morrison, TN; Terry Lee Roberts, McMinnville, TN; Barry Lynn "Fuzz" and Carolyn Roberts, Irving College; Paul David Roberts, Gainesboro, TX; grandchildren and spouses, Laurie Ann Roberts and Billy Wayne Delong, McMinnville, TN; Julie Leann Roberts and Ryan John Jagoda, Casco, Michigan; Aaron Michael and Hollie Roberts and Jessica Danielle Roberts and Tyler Smith, all of Morrison, TN; great grandchildren, McKenzie Roberts and Benjamin Smith, both of Morrison, TN; Ashley Danielle Rarick, McMinnville, TN; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday, January 28 at High’s Chapel in McMinnville, TN with Rev. George Roberts, Sr., and George Roberts, Jr. officiating. IRVIN, PAUL, WILLIAM, age 86, of Tracy City, Tennessee, died Monday, February 1, 2010 at his home. He was a retired carpenter, a member of Carpenters Local 74, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He was a son of the late Clark Irvin and Susie Nunley Irvin and was preceded in death by brothers, George and Freeman Irvin; sisters, Esther Sanders and Etta Fults. Survivors include his wife, Wanda J. Irvin, Tracy City; son, Ronnie Irvin, Winchester, Ohio; daughters, Sue Mirabellie, Chardon, Ohio; Carol Berger, New Commerstown, Ohio; step daughter, Crystal Bramer, Lutz, Florida; special granddaughters, Whitley and Shaey Wise; brother, David Irvin, Tracy City; 18 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 3 in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Andy Lockhart officiating. Burial was in Bonny Oak Cemetery with military honors. Arrangements were made by Cumberland Funeral Home, Monteagle, TN.
