The Lady Yellow Jackets had a tough week suffering two losses and having Friday’s games called off. The DeKalb games will be made up April 14. The girls fell to 5-2 on the season and 1-1 in district play.
“As a coach, you’re goal is to place your players in a position that gives them a chance to win. Although we weren’t able to come away with victories, we were in a position to win both games. We should have won both games and we won’t make any excuses about that. However, we are very happy that we had a number of chances to win both games against quality competition.
As a young team, one that is trying to create their own identity, we will encounter a lot of situations that are new to the “team.” Even with the most experienced of our players, there is a learning curve with how this group of ladies will react in situations. We are still coming together as a family. Our bats were effective up and down the lineup, our pitching was effective, we just committed more errors than our opponents, and at crucial times in the games.
These young ladies want to win, more than any group of girls I’ve been associated with before. The losses hurt, but we learned a lot about who we are as a team. I’m excited to get back to our games this week. We have Bledsoe at home on Wednesday for a make-up game. And this weekend, we travel to Ooltewah for our 1st tournament of the season. I am very proud of how our girls have matured since last year and since tryouts began in February. I hope everyone can come out and watch our girls play,” said Coach Jason Evans.
The Lady Jackets hosted Bledsoe on Wednesday. Friday and Saturday they play in the Ooltewah Classic. Tuesday they play at Pikeville at 6:00 for another district game. Get out and support the Lady Yellow Jackets this week!
