Palmer Town Historian David Patton, founder of the Faithful Attendance Award at the Grundy County Spelling Bee, is shown with the Perfect Attendance students after the 2014 event. This award is restricted to students who have perfect attendance, which means no missed days, no being tardy, and no leaving school early. The award goes to the contestant who finishes highest in the spelling competition itself and the 2014 winner was Miss Gracie Scissom from Palmer Elementary who also received on the David Patton spelling awards. Pictured (front row l to r): Zac Campbell from Pelham Elementary whose proud grandmother Willene Campbell and proud mother Angie Campbell were present to see him compete; Angel Lang from Swiss Memorial; Emily Stiefel from Tracy City Elementary; and Chris Smallwood from Coalmont Elementary; (back row l to r): Lacy Nunley, Sebastian Ledford, and Katie Payne, all from Pelham Elementary, and Gracie Scissom from Palmer Elementary. “Congratulations to these special students and their families,” said Patton.
