The Grundy County Junior Jacket baseball team split a pair of games last Tuesday and Wednesday against Sequatchie County Middle School and Jasper Middle School. The Braves toppled the Junior Jackets 6 – 3 to take the season sweep on Tuesday night. On Wednesday night, the Junior Jackets battled back to take an 11-inning win over the Jasper Warriors 7 -6.
The split left the Junior Jackets with an 8 – 3 record and a game this past Tuesday with Bledsoe County Middle School at GCHS. Game time will be 5:30 pm. The middle school tournament will begin tonight in Jasper at Marion County High School. Brackets were not available at press time.
The Junior Jackets returned to Dunlap to make up a game that was washed out with them leading 6 – 2 in the bottom of the third. The game started all over and this time the hosts got the upper hand after the Junior Jackets got a run in the top of the first. After tying the game in the bottom of the first, the Braves added a run in the third, three more in the fifth, and another single run in the sixth. The Junior Jackets scored two runs in the top of the sixth, but it just wasn’t enough.
Bailey Hill went 3 – 4 with a double and Summer Dees went 2 – 3 with a double. Once again six errors contributed to the loss.
The team showed remarkable resilience by going to Jasper the next night and gutting out a 7- 6, 11 inning win. The Junior Jackets scored single runs in the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and the 11th inning to take the victory. Braxton Norris went 1 – 4 with a double and scored the winning run. Alex Killian went 2 – 6 with an RBI. Jaden Ruehling pitched five hitless and scoreless innings to help the team get the win.
The Junior Jacket JV team won 3 – 0 behind the one hit pitching of Dalyn Pickett and Jarom Huntley. Peyton Huntley went 1 – 2 with a double and two RBIs. Turner Cash went 1 – 2 and an RBI. The JV team is undefeated on the season.
