Six years into the sport of cross country, GCXC is boasting its largest team ever with 23 runners. Since the sport’s inception at GCHS, this is the first year the girls have had enough members to compete as a team.
To open the season, the athletes traveled to compete in the Webb School Invitational against seventeen schools. For the boys’ race, Grundy runner Leo Penne dominated and finished first with a time of 17:32.
In the girls’ race, GCXC had two medalists, Jadan Campbell who finished seventh and Makayla Kirby who finished in thirteenth place.
This year’s team members include seniors McKenzie Dickerson, Caleb Grimes, Jordan Harris, Sebastian Ledford and Leo Penne; juniors Quaid Anderson, Sarah Barrett, Kase Johnson, Jaron Meeks, Jayden Shrum, Tyler Shrum and Emily Stiefel; sophomores Kennedy Brady, Jaden Campbell, Lee Evans, Luisa Holzafpel, Makayla Kirby and Chris Nance; and freshmen Elijiah Campbell, Zac Campbell, Harley King, Zach Ledford and Ryan Shrum.
