On October 28, the Fiery Gizzard Sportsmans Club hosted an afternoon of fun at the 6th annual Grundy County Youth Deer Rally for children participating in the annual young sportsman’s deer hunt. Approximately one hundred hunters stopped by Brawley Road after their morning hunt to en-joy a hot bowl of chili, hotdogs, drinks, and des-serts.
Four excited young hunters checked in their morning’s harvest. There were several activity sta-tions set up for the kids to enjoy after their meal. At one station, hunters tried their luck with the shotgun at the skeet range. The second station was a 3D archery range set up by Mountain Archery. Partici-pants shot Matthews Gene-sis bows at several differ-ent life-like targets. The hunters got more range time by shooting at swing-ing steel targets with dif-ferent rifles.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s “Wild-life on Wheels” trailer was set up to see various wild-life mounts. At another sta-tion, children participated in a couple guessing games. One glass jar containing .22 rifle cartridges was set out to guess the number of rounds in each container. The person with closest guess to the actual number won the container of am-munition. A mineral block was weighed and set out to guess the weight. The per-son with the closest guess won the block.
At the conclusion of the event, door prizes were given away. The prizes in-cluded a shotgun, three ri-fles, muzzleloader, cross-bow, ladder stand, trail camera, a pop-up blind, and various other hunting related prizes. Participants were exposed to some-thing new and hopefully their passion for hunting and the outdoors will con-tinue.
