U.S. Air Force Airman Charles L. Borne recently graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Borne is the son of Leonard and Allison Borne of Gruetli-Laager, and a 2016 graduate of Grundy County High School.
“It was amazing to see how mature Loggon had become in such a short time,” says Allison. “During his time at basic training, he was named an Element Leader, which brought about more duties and responsibilities.
Borne had a large cheering section at his basic training graduation including his parents; sisters Holli, Halee, and Peyton; bother Matt; girlfriend Megan Haynes; and best friend J.C. Beene, along with Shay Keener and Misty Parks.
Borne is now stationed at Sheppard’s Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he is attending technical school for aerospace propulsion. He is set to graduate in late September.
“Loggon is very excited about his journey so far,” explained Allison. “He says the Air Force stresses teamwork and the experiences he has shared with his fellow Americans are amazing.
“The hardest part for him was being away from everyone and not being able to talk to them. But, now he can Facetime most days, so he is loving that!”
