Guyear Named Aspiring Teacher

Discover Together’s Tracy site director, Sherry Guyear was recognized last week on Scholastic’s blog “On Our Minds” as one of five inspiring teachers from across the country. Guyear, who retired from Tracy City Elementary in June after a 33 year teaching career, has served the past two years as lead teacher for Camp Discover, a partnership between Tracy Elementary, Scholastic, Yale Child Study Center and Sewanee: University of the South.

    Grundy County High School Welding Instructor, Robin Dykes, was recently awarded the American Welding Society Instructor of the Year 2013 from the Chattanooga AWS Section. Mr. Dykes was chosen from among instructors that teach welding in both secondary and post-secondary schools for the surrounding counties of Hamilton County.     With the Grundy County High School graduation of the Class of 2013 approaching, former graduates wanted to share their graduation day. The GCHS Class of 1949 began on May 5, with an invocation by Rev. R.M. Johnson followed by a salutatory by Nellie Pickett.
