No matter the outcome of Tuesday’s district final the Yellow Jackets will advance to the region tournament. Grundy played Signal Mountain for the title. The winner of that game hosts a region first round game on Monday against the District 8AA runner up. The loser will travel to their #1 team. The Jackets have moved to 28-11 on the season.
“If we can win Tuesday that means the Region will be here Monday and that will be huge. We haven’t hit the ball very well. We haven’t been consistent hitting the baseball. We’ve left a lot of runners on going all the way back to the Marion County game. We’ve had quality at-bats. Balls we hit just happened to find leather.
Against Whitwell we had several scoring opportunities. Against Sequatchie in both games we really had opportunities to blow both games open and we never did. We’re going to have to capitalize on those opportunities or it’s going to come back and bite us this time of year.
Now the championship game Tuesday is just a one game winner take all. We were talking to the kids that it’s a big honor to win the district tournament but the huge thing is having an opportunity to host a region game Monday night. Monday night is win and advance or lose and go home game. To have the opportunity to play that one at home in front of the home crowd that makes Tuesday huge for us to try and get out of there with a district championship,” said Coach Chase Jones.
Chandler Knight was named the District 7AA player of the year for the regular season. Dylan Cleek, Elijah Bean, Cole Johnson and Schylar Burgess made the all-district team. Coach Jones was also named coach of the year for the district.
