The Lady Yellow Jackets picked up wins Saturday in the Ooltewah tourney and improved on their season record. The girls moved to 7-5 on the season and 1-2 in district play.
“After losing 3 in a row, we rebounded this weekend in the Ooltewah Tournament in a shortened format by winning our first two pool games before falling to Collierville. We played well enough to win our pool, and for about 30 minutes did win it. We were playing Shelbyville in the champion bracket and had them 0-0 through 20 minutes of play.
I’m extremely proud of how we started the tournament and battled. Once the tournament director stopped the game and sent us to a consolation game instead of the bracket, we were done. For 3 1/2 games, we played as a team and overcame adversity whenever it presented itself. Our girls know they have to stay focused and work together to make this season a success and we’re getting there.
We have a lot more softball ahead of us and are excited about the next few weeks of play. Our younger players are starting to step up and challenge for positions and that’s just going to make us more solid and mentally tougher. There are fights for every position now, offensively and defensively. The competition for positions will help us cut down on our foolish errors and make us more consistent at the plate. Once we get those two things taken care of, Grundy Softball will be a handful for any team,” said Coach Jason Evans.
