Jackets Move to 10-3 on the Season

The Yellow Jackets have gone 9-1 over their last 10 games to move to 9-3 on the season. Monday’s win over Bledsoe gave them a 1-0 district mark. They continue to improve and are turning heads. Coach Chase Jones is pleased but says his team still has plenty of work to do.

“You know they’re playing well but we talked this weekend that we’ve got so much to do to improve. The key right now for our kids is confidence and they’re definitely playing with confidence. We hit the hit the ball well this weekend. We’ve started to take a better approach at the plate even though tonight we definitely weren’t stellar at the plate although part of that you have to give credit to the Bledsoe pitcher. He kept us off balance.

Our focus coming into the year regardless of if we were on a losing streak, winning streak or whatever, baseball is a tournament sport. It’s all about how you’re performing when May gets here. When May gets here if you can make it out of the district and make it to a Monday night, Monday night is a one night deal. You have to be on your A game or your season is going to be over. That’s what our focus is. Whether we win or we lose our focus is getting better and understanding how to handle pressure situations. Don’t let one mistake create another mistake. We did that in our first two games. We made seven errors and six errors in the first two games of the season. A lot of those were because we were still thinking about our last one.
The boys are doing a lot better job of just settling and playing. Or focus is just each day getting better and don’t get caught up in the results,” said Coach Jones.

Tuesday Grundy traveled to Bledsoe barring weather. Thursday they begin play in the Rocket Tiger Classic at Marshall County. Today they play Cornersville at 4:30 and Marshall County at 6:30 in the tourney. Saturday they face off against Upperman at noon and Wyoming, Ohio at 7:30.
