The Lady Yellow Jackets started the season in fine fashion Monday night on the road in Winchester downing Franklin County by a 4-2 score. This is a huge opening season win against a Class AAA school for the locals.
Grundy was down 1-0 after one but took a 2-1 lead in the second. They added one in the fourth but the Lady Rebels responded with one in the bottom of the inning. Grundy’s final run came in the top of the sixth.
Harley Davis got the win on the mound going the distance. She gave up two hits, no walks and struck out six. The Franklin runs were unearned.
Torie Scissom led the way at the plate going 2 for 3, notching a RBI, a run and two walks. Sierra Kilgore also went 2 for 3 with a run and a walk. Harley Davis was 1 for 3 with a RBI. Chloe Scissom was 1 for 3 with a run and walk. Emilee Meeks hit 1 for 4 and scored a run.
“I’m very pleased with the way we played. We have to work out some kinks at the plate and be more selective in our swings but we’re still getting back into the swing of things so that’s to be expected. Our defense played well even though we had three errors. They were hustle plays and not just sloppy errors. We got out of trouble a few times tonight and that’s a big plus. We have to learn to win and this is the kind of game that does that. I’m excited about what these girls can do as they become more of a unit,” said Coach Jason Evans Monday night.
Today the Lady Jackets play at Signal Mountain at 5:00 Central time for their first district match up. Monday they host Bledsoe County for a district game at 6:00. Get out to the diamonds and support Lady Yellow Jacket Softball!
