WARD, OSCAR, LEE, JR., 71, departed this life at the home of his niece in Cagle, Tennessee, Wednesday, February 5, 2014. He was a retired truck driver and US Army veteran and was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Lee Ward Sr. and Gertrude Ward Mitchell; brother, Clay Ward; sisters, Jeanetta Couch, Dorothy Ruehling, Frances Morgan and Pauline Rogers. He is survived by his niece and caregivers, Delia and Bobby Sherman and nephew Travis; daughter, Christina Baltze of Nebraska; sisters, Opal Brown and Ida Mae Pickett; 5 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 8 in the funeral home chapel with Minister Johnathan Hankins officiating. Burial was in Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to help with funeral expenses. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.
VENTURA, ROSE, ANN, age 58, of Tracy City, TN, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at her residence. She was born in Coffee County and was a U.S. Navy veteran. She was preceded in death by her parents, father W.J. Livingston who was a World War II veteran and her mother Ina Muncey Livingston. Survivors include her children, Amanda (Chad) Layne of Monteagle; James (Demanda) Gookin of Union City, TN; sister, Barbara Farrar of Tullahoma; grandchildren, Phillip, Shianne and Corbin. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 8 in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Larry Layne officiating. She was laid to rest in Chattanooga National Cemetery. LINKOUS, ANNA, J., 44, departed this life, Friday, February 7, 2014 at the Life Care Center of Cleveland, Tennessee. She was born in Charleston, West Virginia on July 28, 1969 and was preceded in death by her father, Robert Leo Linkous; brother, Jimmy Linkous. She is survived by her daughter, Stefanie House; son, Kyle McGee; granddaughter, Kathrenna House; mother, Brenda Sue Linkous, North Carolina; sisters, Robin (Danny) Jovingo, Ohio and Brenda (Rick) Kedigh of Florida; brothers, Larry (Julia) Linkous and Leo Linkous of Ohio and Dale Linkous of North Carolina; caregivers, Wanda Smith, Velma Scissom and Tammy Nunley of Gruetli-Laager, TN. Funeral services were held Monday, February 10 at the Mount Etta Freewill Baptist Church with Minister Lloyd Crisp officiating. Burial was in Burkett’s Chapel Cemetery. BRADEN, HESTER, MAE, BREWER, 75, departed this life Friday, February 7, 2014 after a courageous battle with kidney disease. She was a member of the Palmer and Altamont Church of Christ and a beautiful person to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Inez Givens James and Mitchell Meeks; husband, Bernice “Bones” Brewer. She is survived by her many loving cousins and friends including Charlotte (Gary) Haynes, Melba (Gerald) Smith, Charles Ronnie (Rosalyn) and Tim Knight; and uncle, Philip Fults. Funeral services were held Sunday, February 9 in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Philip Fults and Joe Gray officiating. Burial was in Fall Creek Cemetery. GARNER, LOUIS, STANLEY, 77, of East Ridge, TN, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 28, 2014. He was born and raised in Tracy City, TN. He was a US Marine, a member of East Ridge Church of Christ, and retired from Wheland Foundry as Operations Manager. After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling to different cities attending bluegrass festivals. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ora Garner; 2 brothers; and 3 sisters. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Niccoa Garner; children, Beverly (Mitchell) Grubbs; Ed (Teresa) Garner and Tracy (Robert) Mills; grandchildren, Kyle O’Brien, Bridgette O’Brien, Rachael Garner, Cara Garner and Chandler Mills; sisters, Rose Ledbetter, Ruth Earp, and Carolyn Hughes; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held in Chattanooga. MOTT, CLAUDIE, 79, departed this life, February 10, 2014 at his home. He was retired from the State of Tennessee. He was born in Coalmont on December 11, 1934 to Floyd and Hazel Lockhart Mott who preceded him in death along with his son, Wicky Mott; brothers, J.R. “Rooney” and Tommy “Ledger” Mott. He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda (Bill) Smith, Jacksonville, NC; grandchildren, Jason (Rhonda) Meeks, Peyton and Asha Yokley, Natasha Prince, Cory Mott and April Payne; 9 great grandchildren. Memorial funeral services were held Thursday, February 13 in the funeral home chapel with Minister Clayton Jones officiating. A private burial followed in the Coalmont Cemetery. WILSON, COLEMAN CLAY, also known as “Papa,” 73, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014 at The Bridge at Monteagle. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend to all that knew him. He was retired from The Houston Chronicle were he worked as a Printing Pressman. In his younger years, he was an avid golf player. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Charles Frayer of Hurst, TX; his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Wilson McQuary and Daniel S McQuary of Fort Stockton, TX; sons, Jared L Wilson, Jay Lynn Wilson and Joel L Wilson of Bedford, TX; grandchildren, Lauren and Micah Womack, Lindsey L Wilson, Travis K Wilson, Jordan Wilson, Justin Wilson, Aaron Wilson, Jasen Wilson; great grandchildren, Connor Wilson Womack and Addison Grace Womack; nieces, Shelley Frayer Prikey and Dena Frayer. The family would like to thank the staff and caretakers at The Bridge of Monteagle and the CNA Tim for the compassionate care they provided for the last 10 years.
