GCHS - 1

The Lady Jackets picked up two wins in the South Pittsburg tournament last week. The men continued to struggle dropping all three games in the tourney. The Lady Jackets improved to 5-10 overall and remain 1-4 in the district. The Jacket men are 2-14 and 0-5.

Grundy hosts Moore County Friday at 6:00. Tuesday they host Bledsoe County also at 6:00. Get out to the hardwoods this week Grundy fans!

Girls:

North Sand Mountain 55 – Grundy 47

The Lady Jackets led throughout the first half in this one up 11-8 after one and 19-18 at the break. They had a second half letdown giving up 37 points. “This game was a tough loss. We just couldn’t seem to play four quarters. North Sand Mountain is a good team but we could have won and that is what makes it so hard. We just have to be able to put it all together and play a full game,” said Coach Julie Davis. Tori Sartain led Grundy with 14 points. Kristin Hill scored eight. Macey Meeks tossed in seven. Peyton Eads and Madison Burrows scored five each. Kelsey Arbuckle had four. Mallory Seals and Mikayla Williams scored two each.

Grundy 55 – Marion Co. 32

Any day is a good day to beat a Marion County team and Friday that’s what the Lady Jackets did. Grundy won the first three quarters 18-7, 13-6 and 14-6 and rolled on to the 23 point win. “This was a good game for us. Everyone got to play in this game, which was great. The freshmen players were able to play and get some floor experience. We played as a team and played hard from start to finish. We just need to build on this win and keep it going,” said the coach. Hannah Phillips, Macey Meeks and Mikayla Williams led the Lady Jackets with eight points each. Kristin Hill scored seven. Mallory Seals had six. Madison Burrows and Kelsey Arbuckle notched five each. Tori Sartain tossed in four. Peyton Eads and Haylee Northcutt had two each.

Grundy 63 – South Pittsburg 41

Grundy rolled in their final game in the tourney Saturday night. The Lady Jackets used an 18-5 first quarter and 22-10 fourth quarter to win by 22. “It was good to get a second win in a row. Our first 12 points game from behind the arc with Mikayla hitting 3 threes and Kristin hitting one but then Mikayla got into foul trouble so we had to look at going inside more. The girls played really hard and really deserved this win. Throughout the game we just were never really able to put them away until the end. Everyone got some playing experience, which is always good. Hopefully, we can continue to play hard and as a team as we start the second half of the season,” said Coach Davis. Kristin Hill led the Lady Jackets with 14 points including a three. Macey Meeks followed with 12. Mikayla Williams had nine all off threes. Tori Sartain scored eight. Peyton Eads and Madison Burrows notched six each. Kelsey Arbuckle scored four. Mallory Seals and Makayla Misiolek scored two each.

Boys:

North Sand Mountain 69 – Grundy 39

The Jacket men led 16-15 after one quarter in this one but a 21-7 second quarter and a 17-0 fourth quarter were their demise. Terrince Bramhall led the Jackets with 10 points. Kasey Brown and Trevor Hampton followed with eight points each. Tyler Rose had six off two threes. Boo Goins had five with a three. Tanner Smartt scored two.

Marion Co. 65 – Grundy 52

Grundy dropped their game Friday against the arch rival Warriors. Marion exploded for a 22-9 first quarter and set the tone on the way to the win. Tyler Rose led Grundy with 15 points including four three pointers. Trevor Hampton followed with 11. Kasey Brown had 10 with three treys. Terrince Bramhall scored nine. Tanner Smartt had four and Dylan Mooney hit a three pointer.

South Pittsburg 66 – Grundy 57

Once again a slow first quarter proved to be too difficult to overcome. Grundy trailed 24-12 after one but played well the rest of the way. They just couldn’t get over the hump. “Overall, we struggled throughout the whole tournament. We looked very sharp at sometimes and very bad at others. The Marion game was the game that we played the best. The guys played very hard and it was a very exciting game. The last game against South Pittsburg we looked very tired. We couldn’t get shots to fall and it seemed like they couldn’t miss,” said Coach Justin Bryant. Kasey Brown led the Jackets with 13 points with a three. Tanner Smartt and Terrince Bramhall scored 11 points each. Trevor Hampton had eight. Tyler Rose tossed in seven and Boo Goins six.
