GCHS Swim Team Qualifies For State High School Championship
For the first time in the history of the school, Grundy County High has a swim team. Although the team has only one swimmer this year, that swimmer is going to the region and state championships.
Alexa Fults, a ninth grader at GCHS, represented her school at the Franklin County Swim Meet in Winchester on November 12. High school swim teams competing were from Coffee County, Franklin County, Grundy County, Warren County, Spring Hill and Tullahoma. High school swimmers enter only two events per meet. Alexa swam the 50-yard freestyle in 27:48 seconds (new best time) and placed second. She also swam the 100-yard freestyle in 1:01:21 and placed second in that event.
On November 15 Alexa swam as a GCHS Yellow Jacket at the Coffee County meet in Manchester and competed again high school swim teams from Coffee County, Lincoln County, Warren County, Fayetteville High, and Tullahoma High. She swam the 200-yard freestyle in 2:14:13. This time put her in first place and qualified her for the Tennessee High School Swimming and Diving Championship to be held February 14 and 15 at the Nashville Aquatic Club. She swam the 100-yard freestyle in 1:00:73 placing her first in the event. Alexa had previous times qualifying for the Middle Tennessee High School Region Championship which will be held January 31 at the Nashville Aquatic Club.
Alexa is the daughter of Randy and Sherri Fults of Hubbard’s Cove. She swims at the Manchester Recreation Complex and is coached by Shawn Daniels. She is also a member of the Manchester Makos Swim Team, a year round competitive swimming organization.
