Ingleburger And Palmer Win For GCHS Bass

In the first tournament of the 2013-2014 school year, Kyle Ingleburger and Kyle Palmer won the Yellow Jacket Open High School Bass Tournament Saturday on Nickajack Lake. The two Kyle’s attend Franklin County High but fish with the GCHS Bass Team as their school doesn’t have a team. Ingleburger and Palmer had four fish for 12.46 pounds. Palmer had a 5.57 pound largemouth as the kicker in that sack that was also the big fish in the tourney.


Teams participating in the tourney were from Grundy County, Chattanooga Central, East Hamilton, Walker Valley and Murfreesboro Central Magnet school. There were a total of 23 boats with 46 students fishing. The teams also braved tough conditions shortly after the tournament started as torrential rains came across the lake for a large part of the morning.


Grundy’s Tristan Owenby and Gage Johnson were second with five fish for 10.44 pounds. Yellow Jacket members Samuel Morgan and Justin Grimes were in the money in fifth place with four fish for 7.61 pounds. Full tournament results are listed in this edition of the Grundy County Herald.


Along with their plaques Ingleburger and Palmer received over $65.00 each in tackle from the GCHS Bass Boosters. Competitors on the second, third and fourth place teams each received plaques and tackle packs in descending value. Palmer received a plaque for the big fish and a Denali rod worth over $100. Owenby and Johnson received a tackle pack for fifth place. All remaining competitors all received tackle packs and one of the fishermen from East Hamilton won a Denali rod in a prize drawing.


The tourney was one of two the GCHS Bass Team will compete in during the fall. They will fish again October 5 on Chickamauga Lake when Silverdale Baptist Academy hosts a tourney.


The GCHS Bass Boosters asks everyone to get involved with their club and help support the GCHS Bass Team in their third year of competition on the water. The boosters will hold a meeting Tuesday, October 1, at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria of the high school. The boosters will also be collecting parking donations at the October 4 Grundy football game which is homecoming.
