The First Baptist Church in Decherd will host the 80th Annual Tennessee State Gospel Singing Convention on Friday and Saturday, September 6-7.
All t hose who love great southern gospel music are invited to this huge event.
Group singing will begin on Friday, September 6 at 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. followed by a catered lunch and more singing at 1:30 p.m.
Talented musician and high school student Christopher R. Smith of Decherd is the president of the Tennessee State Gospel Singing Convention.
At 17, he is the youngest to ever preside over the singing. Executive Vice President is Amy Steakley of Fayetteville.
Since 1934, Tennessee Shaped Note Convention singers have hosted an annual gospel singing. This year marks the 80th anniversary of this event with as many as 350 singers, singing from newly published convention songbooks. Each county convention and singing school in the state of Tennessee will meet to hold the annual singing.
