BERGHOLT, EDWARD, SANFORD, 79, of Altamont, TN, passed away Tuesday July 30, 2013. He was born in Cincinnati, OH on May 12, 1934 to Edward Sanford Bergholt Sr. and Alice Fuglie Bergholt who preceded him in death along with his sister, Marilyn and brother, Jimmy. He was a US Navy veteran, Registered Nurse and Trim-Finish Carpenter. He was a member of the Beersheba Springs Seventh-day Adventist Church and worked at Harvestime Books located at Pilgrims Rest. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Zeber Bergholt; son, Lane Edward Bergholt, Tampa, FL. Burial services will be held privately in the Altamont Cemetery. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements by Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, TN.
KEENER, WILBURN, “BUD,” 70, of Palmer, TN, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013. He was retired from Tuftco in Palmer, loved fishing, hunting, gardening and camping and anything outdoors. He was a coalminer in his younger years. He was born April 10, 1943 to Luther and Gracie Kilgore Keener who preceded him in death along with his brothers, Elmer and Jack Keener; sisters, Stella King and Mary Childers. He is survived by his loving wife, Rita Fults Keener; son, Eric Keener; daughter, Sonia Hillis Thompson; brothers, Thurman (Sherry) and Jimmy (Patsy) Keener; sisters, Dolly Myers (Dwight), Ola Stockwell (Late James) and Lola Curtis (Late Harold); loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday, August 2 in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Ronnie Partin and Philip Fults officiating. Burial was in Browns Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.
TODD, MARJORIE, HOWELL, 84, of Monteagle, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 24, 3013. She previously resided in Bradenton, Florida. She is survived by her brother, Gordon Howell, Jr.; daughters, Beverly Todd, Susan Rodriguez, Rebecca Todd and son, George Todd, Jr.: grandchildren, Jason Todd, George Todd, III, and Diane Halstead; great grandchildren, Ashley Halstead, Madison Todd, and Carter Todd. She was interred at Manasota Memorial Park in Bradenton, FL.
BATSON, TIM, passed away July 18, 2013 after a courageous 3 year battle with ALS. He was born August 28, 1961 in New Lenox, IL, the LWHS class of 1979. He was preceded in death by sister, Deborah; cousin, Tom DeFore; stepfather, Roger Hamilton, and his grandparents. He was president of Angle Manufacturing and an avid golfer; one of his favorite trips was to Scotland where he played the “Old Course” and was a member of Sewanee Golf Club and Franklin County Golf Club. After he was diagnosed in June 2010, he was able to enjoy time with Whitney in the American Virgin Islands and Las Vegas. He had a zest for life and got immense pleasure golfing with his buddies. He was a resident of Tennessee for 27 years and considered himself a “Tennessee boy!” He is survived by his loving mother, Barbara Matteson Batson Hamilton; brother, Rick (Robin) Batson, Seligman, AZ; father, Richard G. Batson, Lake Havasu, AZ; girlfriend, Whitney Freeman, Kimball, TN; aunts, June (Richard) DeFore, Rio Rancho, NM; Barbara (Earl) Weeks, Abilene, TX; Elizabeth (Duane) Wirt, Lewiston, MN; Martha Lynn (Daniel) Pisaniello, Lowville, NY; Shirley Cross Koval, New Lenox, IL; uncle, Bob Matteson, Haines City, FL; step brothers, Robert (Gail) Hamilton, Thousand Oaks, CA; Russell Hamilton, OK, and numerous cousins. Per Tim’s request, he donated his body to Vanderbilt for ALS research hoping to help someone in the future. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.
ROLLINS, CAROLYN, JEAN, LAYNE, age 76, of Tullahoma, TN, and a former resident of Monteagle, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester. She was a daughter of the late Robert Wilson Layne and Willie E. Thomas Layne and was preceded in death by a daughter, Carrie Ann Brewer and her husband, Edward “Bud” Rollins. Survivors include her children, Tim Layne, Mike Layne, and Anthony Layne, all of Monteagle; Amy Shelton, Belvidere; Tammy Terrill, Monteagle; James Meeks, Tullahoma; Clinton Meeks, Estill Springs; and Meshell Meeks, Manchester; brother, John Layne, Tracy City; sister, Susie Peck, Decherd; 22 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
