Grundy Archers Win State Tournament

Grundy County made a strong showing at the ASA Tennessee State Archery tournament July 20 and 21 at Buck 2 Beards in Old Fort, TN. Over 200 archers competed for bragging rights as the Tennessee State Champion.

Several members of the Mountain Archery family took home the hardware either winning state titles or placing very high. Two of the group were repeat state champions.

Tyler Sanders won the state title for the second year in a row and the third time in four years. He was shooting in the Eagle class. Younger brother Trenton Sanders finished third in the Junior Eagle division. 

Heath Layne also won a state championship for the second year in a row shooting from the Young Adult Pins. Local J.C. Beene took second in the class.

Robbie Rollins finished third in the Open A class while Jessie Meeks finished ninth. Rollins had just coming off a big win at the ASA Federation tour.

In the Open B Class, Carter Underhill, Mountain Archery’s Shooter of the Year for 2012, finished third and Matt Meeks was sixth.

In the Women’s Bow Hunter Class Jennifer Meeks took third place.

All the shooters are regulars with Mountain Archery and owner Jason Tate complimented with pride, “We’re not only proud of everyone’s accomplishments but we’re pleased to call them friends.
