9,982-Calorie Quadruple-Bypass Burger®: I can hardly believe this is true. The Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas boasts having a burger that is almost 10,000 calories! Dear me, and anyone who weighs over 350 pounds eats for free! The owner, Jon Basso, does not seem fazed by the recent death of their unofficial spokesperson. After all, he says this is perhaps the only honest restaurant in America. “This is bad for you, and it’s gonna kill you.”
Yes, you should know that when you eat those kinds of foods, you may have a heart attack and need bypass surgery! But who would choose that?
Over the last few months I have written about the alarming increase in the rate of disease in our country. The conclusion that the government, the CDC and the health departments are coming to is that this is directly related to what we are eating and how we are living. The government is passing out money to the states telling them to do something to turn this situation around! The states are giving grants to folks who will come up with innovative ways to make a healthier community.
We have recently seen changes at many levels of society. One public school in Queens is now the first public school in the country to serve just vegetarian food. School Chancellor Dennis Walcott announced the program in May of this year. On the menu for that day was black bean and cheddar quesadillas with salsa, red roasted potatoes and broccoli. Earlier in the year the school, “PS 244” began offering vegetarian items at lunch. They discovered early on that “our kids were gravitating toward our vegetarian offerings so we kept expanding the program to meet the demand,” explained Principal Robert Groff.
One prominent insurance company was recently in the news for starting to ask their doctors to recommend lifestyle changes for their patients. Could this possibly come to their making these recommendations mandatory? I hope not! I personally would rather do these things because I want to, not because the government says I have to!
Summer time is a wonderful time to eat of the abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables that are available. Eat freely of these foods. Use the knowledge that you have and make better choices of what to eat. Choose what gives life, not what kills.
