Ordinance Passed

On Tuesday, July 2, the Town of Altamont voted and passed a city ordinance that will ban any store in Altamont from selling any cold or allergy medications containing pseudo ephedrine over the counter.

From now on all medications containing pseudo ephedrine will need to be purchased with a doctors’ prescription.

The Grundy Safe Communities Coalition and its members were present to support this ordinance in an effort to reduce the massive number of methamphetamine labs in Grundy County and join other counties in Tennessee like Franklin and other states such as Oregon, Mississippi, and Missouri. These states have witnessed a 90% decrease in meth labs by making medications containing pseudo ephedrine prescription only.

The Coalition would like to offer a sincere and heartfelt thanks to the City of Altamont, Monteagle, and Tracy City for passing this ordinance.

There will be city council meetings in Palmer and Gruetli-Laager later this month and we hope that those cities will join in the fight to rid our beautiful county of this ugly drug.
