BISHOP, CHARLES, E., SR., 83, of Coalmont, TN, passed away Monday, May 27, 2013 at Sheltering Arms Home in Palmer, TN. He was born on September 17, 1929 in Vicksburg, MS being born 8th of 9 children. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Beersheba Springs, TN and was a pharmacist most of his adult life, working at Palmer Drug as his last job. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Bishop; son, Charles E. Bishop, Jr. of McDonald, TN; daughter, Pamela Pierre, Chattanooga, TN; sisters, Patsy Hutson, of Puckett, MS and Gloria Logan of Pearl, MS. Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, June 4, at the Cumberland Heights Seventh-Day Adventist Church. CONN, A.M., “JACK,” age 85, of Decherd, TN, departed this life suddenly on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma, TN. He was a member of the Farris Chapel United Methodist Church and was a presser in the clothing industry for many years before retiring from Lanier Clothing. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and the Army National Guard. He was a loving and devoted husband, brother and uncle. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Edna Conn of Decherd; nephews, Wade (Carolyn) Bassett of Manchester, Mark Bassett of Decherd, Bobby (Claudine) Conn of Florida; nieces, Betty (Clint) Coker of Decherd, Marjie Gipson of Manchester, Tammy (Buck) Morris of Winchester, Peggy Curtis of Decherd, Joan (Harold) Jones of Belvidere; cousin-in-laws, Bobby (Magdalene) Nunley of Grundy County, and a special friend, Carolyn Bearden of Hillsboro, TN. Funeral services were held Sunday, June 2 with Pastor Jeremy Taylor and Bro. Willie Banks officiating. Interment was in Mt. Garner Cemetery in Decherd, TN with Military Honors. ADAMS, ALFRED, THOMPSON, age 85, died peacefully on May 21, 2013. Born August 22, 1927 in Nashville, Tennessee to Alfred Thompson Adams and Karin Hughes Adams. He graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy 1945-1946. He graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Engineering in 1949 and Vanderbilt School of Law in 1952. He was elected to the Tennessee General Assembly in 1953 and married Peggy Joyce Keylon of Manchester in 1954. She passed away in 1999. Alf practiced law in Nashville from 1952 until he retired in 2002. He moved to Beersheba Springs, Tennessee to live in the log home he built for his family. He did residential construction, surveying, farming, beekeeping and caretaking of the Adams family homes on the mountain. He married Patricia Riley Fleming of Greensboro, N.C. in 2003. Alf was a deacon and elder of the Downtown Presbyterian Church, and managed the church property for 20 years. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, a charter member of the Nashville City Club, Director and General Council of the Nashville Union Rescue Mission. In Beersheba, he was a member and song leader at the Grace Chapel United Methodist Church, and a member of the Grundy County Republican Executive Committee and the Election Commission. His love for Grundy County lasted his whole life. He was devoted to the conservation of the natural surroundings as well as his friends there. He turned a dream into reality by establishing homes there that generations to come will enjoy. He is survived by his sisters, Karin Adams Stewart, Rosalie Adams Crispin, and Mary Adams Wiley, and his brothers Benjamin Strickler Adams and John Phillips Adams. He is also survived by his 5 children, Jencie Adams Tipton (Waymon), Karin Adams Barro (Greg), Peggy Adams Luton (Ken), Sue Howell Keyes (Peter) and Alfred Thompson Adams III (Jennifer), and 20 grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Like Family Home Health, Alive Hospice, and his dear caregiver, Julia Jones. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. A memorial service honoring his life will be held at a later date at the Downtown Presbyterian Church. He will be buried at Grace Chapel in Beersheba Springs.
CHRISTMAN, WILLIAM, MELVIN, 66, of Altamont, TN, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Raintree Manor Nursing Home in McMinnville surrounded by his family. He was born in Greensboro, North Carolina and was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Kate Christman and Elizabeth Zimmerman; half-brother, Jerry Oliver. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Holt Christman; sons, William M. (Ronda) Christman Jr. of Hixson and Jeffery Mark Anthony Christman, Seminole, Florida; half-brothers, William Oliver, Bartlett, IL, Terry Oliver, Greensboro, NC and Larry Oliver, Savannah, GA; grandchildren, Eli, Brian and Shawn Christman; several nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2013 at the Little Creek Baptist Church in Altamont with Bro. Dal Barrett officiating. TURNER, JUDY, K., age 73, of the Sweeton Hill community near Tracy City, TN, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2013 in Emerald Hodgson Hospital in Sewanee. She was retired from the Grundy County Board of Education and was a lifelong member of Sweeton Hill Congregational Methodist Church. She was born in Coalmont, a daughter of the late Willie Carl Fults and Beatrice Nunley Fults and was preceded in death by a daughter, Tresa Turner. Survived by a kind and loving husband, Bobby Gene Turner; son, Bobby Darrell (Pam) Turner; daughter, Beverly (Dwayne) Gipson, all of Tracy City; brothers, Thomas Fults, Madison, TN, Pete (Laverne) Fults, Manchester, Kenneth (Carolyn) Fults, Palmer, TN, Jerry (Janice) Fults, Lebanon, TN; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer (Kris) Braden, Allen Gipson, Kristi Turner, Brian Turner; 2 great grandchildren, Jadon Hall and Xander Braden; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 5 in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Gene Richard and John Potts officiating. Burial was in Coalmont Cemetery with pallbearers Jerry Fults, Pete Fults, Allen Gipson, Brian Turner, Dewayne Gipson and Jeff Hiett.
