NORRIS, AVENE, ESTELL, 77, of Gruetli-Laager, Tennessee, passed away Friday, May 17, 2013 at her home with her family at her side. She attended New Life Ministry Church. She was born in Whitwell, Tennessee on June 3, 1935 to William and Mattie McGowan Griffith who preceded her in death along with her husband, Billy J. Norris; sisters, Ida Layne and Beatrice Kilgore; brothers, Stan, Lee, Max, Jim and J.C. Griffith. She is survived by her daughters, Mary “Sissy” (Mike) Fults, Rita (Jeff) Sweeton, Stephanie (Kevin) Gibbs and daughter of heart Sharon Sanders; son, Wayne (Donna) Norris; brothers, William (Rachel) and Oakland (Tootsie) Griffith; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Sunday, May 19 in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Harold Steele, Tyler McCullough and Mack Hampton officiating. Burial was in Griffith Creek Cemetery. ASHLEY, BERTHA, SCHULZE, age 104, of Manchester, TN, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Horizon Health and Rehab Center in Manchester. She was born in Tracy City, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Oscar and Emma Hunziker Schulze. She moved to Manchester when she and Joe Ashley were married in 1948. Although they did not have any children, she touched the lives of generations of children during her teaching career with the Manchester City School System for 44 years. She was an avid reader and had read up until her eyesight began to fail. She enjoyed playing bridge and she and Joe traveled extensively during their marriage, visiting all 50 states as well as several foreign countries. She was a member of St. Bede’s Episcopal Church since it was built, was a member of Delta Kappa Sigma Sorority for over 60 years and a member of the literary forum and the Coffee County Retired Teachers. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe Ashley; brother, Herman Schulze; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Greeter, and Mrs. Mabel Tate. Survivors include nieces, Mrs. Helen Scaglia of Lafayette, Indiana; Mrs. Kathryn Fletcher of Chattanooga; Mrs. Marianna Daulton of Albany, Georgia; and Mrs. Nancy Buck of Montgomery, Alabama; nephew, Richie (Dick) Ashley of Columbia, Tennessee; longtime friends, caregivers and neighbors, Reeves and Donna Turney of Manchester. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 22 at St. Bede’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Mary Hassell officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with pallbearers Ron Bingham, John Greeter, Shaw Jared, Reeves Turney, Jim Enos and Richard Davis and honorary pallbearers Buster Bush, Jim Major, Terry Pardue and Rick Charter. LEWIS, CARLOS, EVERETT, age 68, went to be with the Lord after a long illness with cancer, on April 29, 2013. He was born in Palmer, TN, on October 31, 1944, and graduated from Grundy County High School in 1963. He will always be remembered for his artistic ability, and the portrait he painted of teacher, Mrs. Violet Wakeland, for the 1963 GCHS yearbook. He served in the US Air Force, worked at DuPont in Chattanooga, then moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL, where he worked for Southern Bell Telephone. He was retired from AT&T. While living in Florida, he obtained his pilots license and enjoyed flying. He was preceded in death by his father, George Herbert Lewis; mother, Della Brown Lewis; step-mother, Flora Cook Lewis; sisters, Odell Minton and Louise Miller; brother, Charles Lewis. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Deborah Kirkendoll Lewis; daughter, Melissa (Josh) Carden; three grandchildren, Jonathan Simmons, Jocelyn and Lillian Grace Carden, all of Pulaski, TN; sisters, Margaret (Jimmy) Pirtle of Tracy City and Betty (Carl) Stevens of Dunnellon; FL; two step-sisters, Bonnie (Herbert) Caldwell of Coalmont, and Carolinda (Gilbert) Layne of Soddy Daisy, TN. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 2 at Carr & Erwin Funeral Home, followed by a military service in Giles Memory Gardens, Pulaski, TN, where he was laid to rest. CASH, DAVID, BINKLEY, age 47, of Coalmont, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Erlanger Health System in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is preceded in death by his father Billy Joe Cash and daughter Chanyl Dawn Cash, nephew, Billy Joe Cash. He is survived by his mother Faye Cash of Coalmont, TN; sons, David Cash, Jr. and Blane Cash of Little Rock, Arkansas; Chevy Cash of Chattanooga, TN; daughter, Shelvy Cash, Chattanooga, TN; brothers, Greg (April) Cash, Tracy City, TN; Troy (Jacque) Cash, Tracy City, TN; Terry and Michael Cash, Coalmont, TN; sisters, Beverly (Bud) Nunley, Coalmont, TN; Jeana (Brent) Myers, LaDonna Nunley, Gruetli Laager, TN; numerous nephews and nieces and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces. OGELVIE, ESSIE, MAE, age 95, of Monteagle, Tennessee, passed away Monday, May 20, 2013 at her daughter’s home in Manchester with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank William Ogelvie; son, Frazier Ogelvie; daughters, Hazel Landers, Katherine Joyce Ogelvie, Charlotte Cooper; grandchildren, Samuel Keith Pickett, Johnny Pickett, Billy Pickett, Camellia Jackson, Jamie Pickett, Anthony Ogelvie, Jr., and Donnie Nunley. She was a long time member of Monteagle First Baptist Church. Survivors include her children, Mabelle (Buck) Barnes, Janie Stewart, Milton (Janice) Ogelvie, all of Monteagle, Tony (Lorraine) Ogelvie, Murfreesboro, Linda (Roger) Guess, Estill springs, Pam Gould, Manchester; sister, Elizabeth Goins, LaFayette, IN; 18 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
