HAMPTON, MELVIN, H., 76, of Jasper, TN, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013. He was born in Palmer, TN and was a longtime resident of Jasper, TN. He was owner and operator of Hampton Trucking for 50 years and was a member of Sewanee Lodge #405 in Tracy City, TN. He was an enthusiastic motorcyclist and strong supporter of the Trail of Tears. He was an accomplished guitar player and vocalist of country and gospel music. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Melvin C. “Bud” and Elizabeth Hampton, and his sister, Clata Frank of Houston, TX. Survivors include his wife, Kathy M. Hampton; sons, Randy (Rena) Hampton, Wesley A. (Roxanne) Hampton, Palmer, TN; daughters, Susan (Kenny) Knight, Estill Springs, TN and Ruth Ann (Rod) Hampton Harrison, Hixson, TN; two step-sons, Bruce Wesley Smith, Stapleton, AL and Brian Lee (Amanda) Smith, Bridgeport, AL; sister, Wanda Meeks, Palmer, TN; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; many family and friends. Funeral services were held at the funeral home chapel on Saturday, May 4. Interment was in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens. COX, CAROL, ANN, 48, of Altamont, TN, passed away Wednesday May 1, 2013 after a sudden illness. She was a loving wife and devoted mother working on the family farm and secretary of C and W Trucking and of the Church of Christ faith. She was born in Manchester on December 17, 1964 and was preceded in death by her father, Richard A. Dodge; son, William Kevin Cox; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Virginia Cox; nephew, Donovan Richardson. She is survived by her husband, William Cox; daughters, Selina Cox, Heather (Travis) Gunter and Emily Cox; mother, Sally Knapp Dodge; sister, Tina Dodge; brother, Lonnie (Lonnette) Dodge; grandchildren, Jaime, Selina, Brayan, Reyna and Kinsy; several loving nieces and nephews and family. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 4 in the funeral home chapel. Burial was in Fults Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, TN.
ROBERTS, RANDALL, K., 76, of Jasper, TN, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2013. He was a US Army veteran, a member of Grace Baptist Church and the American Legion. He was born in Pelham, Tennessee on September 26, 1936 to Elmo L. and Alice Rhea Roberts who preceded him in death along with his sister, Linda Faye Roberts; brother, Ray Kenneth Roberts. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 plus years, Sylvia Ann Dishroon Roberts; daughters, Kimberly (Scott) Aaron and Jena A. (Danny) Grant both of Ringgold, GA; sons, John (Tammy) Roberts, Greensboro, NC and Kenneth Dale Roberts, Fort Oglethorpe, GA; sister, Wanda Jean Roberts of McMinnville, Tennessee; 17 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, May 6 at Grace Baptist Church in South Pittsburg, TN with Rev. Ronnie Case officiating. Burial was in Palmer Cemetery, Palmer, TN with full military honors provided by the Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard. Arrangements were made by Tate Funeral Home, Jasper, TN.
THOMAS, ALVIRN, DICKERSON, age 83, of the Summerfield community near Monteagle, TN, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at The Willows at Winchester. She was born in the Alto community of Franklin County a daughter of the late Alvin Dickerson and Elizabeth Brandon Dickerson and was a member of Monteagle Baptist Tabernacle. She was preceded in death by her husband Douglas Thomas; son-in-law Freddie Wayne Hassebrock; sister, Flossie Throneberry; brothers, Howard and Estil Dickerson. Survivors include her daughters, Cathy Hassebrock of Pelham and Teresa (James H.) Nunley of Monteagle; grandchildren, Amy Hershman, Teri Morrow (Nick), Dustin; two great grandchildren, Reagan and Haven. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 4 in the funeral home chapel. LEWIS, CARLOS, EVERETT, age 68, passed away after a long illness with cancer on Monday, April 29, 2013, at the Maury Regional Hospital, Columbia, TN. He was born in Palmer, Tennessee on October 31, 1944, retired from AT & T, and served in the US Air Force. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 2 at Carr & Erwin Funeral Home.
